Lyle
Pointer lives to gather and to grow great people for God and His
church. His desire includes reaching lost people, bringing them
into a loving relationship with Jesus, and sending them out as
witnesses to a holy life.
Ministry:
He presently serves as Professor of Evangelism at Nazarene
Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. Simultaneously he is
part-time senior pastor at the Blue Springs First Church of the
Nazarene. Other involvements include Facilitator of Evangelism
Resources for his denomination, church growth consultant, and
chairman of the board of Carved In Stone: A Faith Formation Foundation.
Family:
Lyle was born into a family of six children. His dad and mother
were bi-vocational pastors in the Northwestern United States.
Lyle and Paula married 32 years ago and have adult daughters,
Lana and Brooke. He enjoys playing racquetball.
Education:
Lyle graduated from Northwest Nazarene University with a BA
in Religion. He then earned a Master of Divinity and a Master
of Religious Education from Nazarene Theological Seminary. Fuller
Theological Seminary granted him a Doctor of Ministry in 1978.
Experience:
He pastored Nazarene churches in North Dakota, California,
and Idaho. He has served as Minister of Evangelism and Pastor’s
Associate/Program Administrator at Bethany First Nazarene Church,
Bethany, Oklahoma. For nine years he taught Practical Theology
and Christian Education at Southern Nazarene University. He presently
teaches evangelism at Nazarene Theological Seminary and serves
his denomination as Coordinator of Evangelism Resources. Trained
by Fuller Evangelistic Association, he works as a Church Growth
Consultant.
Writing:
Lyle co-authored Evangelism in Everyday Life and Deep
Questions, Direct Answers. He writes for church periodicals,
develops curricula for pastors and leaders, and creates training
programs for personal evangelists and resources for Christian
lay workers.
Speaking:
He trains people in evangelism, church growth, leadership
and spiritual formation throughout the Nazarene Church and across
denominational lines. He regularly teaches evangelism in the Order
of the Flame, a Wesleyan-Methodist training ministry. He starts
and teaches Sunday school classes.
Associations:
Lyle has served as liaison for his church to the Wesleyan
Commission on Evangelism and Mission America. For years he has
been a member of the Association of Case Studies, The American
Society for Church Growth and The Academy of Evangelism in Theological
Education.
