Lloyd Ogilvie
wrote a book over a quarter of a century ago with the title, Life
Without Limits. His preparation work took him to the University
of Edinburgh where he pored over the books to bring back messages
to his congregation at Hollywood Presbyterian Church. Back home
in the United States the nation was passing through the final
stages of the Watergate crisis. As he wrote his preface, he was
unaware that in a few short weeks the President of the United
States would resign in disgrace.
Crisis after crisis has hit, not only the United States, but the
world. Impending danger lurks in front of us even now almost three
decades later. What Ogilvie penned in that preface still is relevant
today.
“My study of history had convinced me that any period of
revival had been preceded by a rediscovery of Jesus Christ. He
alone had been able to revitalize the sagging spirit of depleted
Christians; he alone had been able to invigorate a passion for
the needs of people; and he alone had energized the Church with
new fire and contagion. I knew that I was living in one of those
times that needed Christ more than anything else.”
Today, more than ever, we are in need of Christ in order to have
life without limits!
