In the world of professional sports, one of the most often quoted
individuals is the late football coach Vince Lombardi. His teams
put Green Bay, Wisconsin on the map. His thoughts have been quoted
by motivational speakers, preachers, teachers, players and sports
announcers, from the mid-1960s until today. One of those quotes
comes to mind that he reportedly made to his players: “Only
three things should matter in life: your religion, your family,
and the Green Bay Packers. In that order!”
Lombardi understood something about setting priorities.
Jesus was no stranger to the importance of setting priorities
for life. He told his disciples that one day He would return and
that they needed to “keep watch, because you do not know
on what day your Lord will come” (Matthew 24:42).
Are you keeping watch by putting first things first?
